Two 4 One, the story of a one night stand with unexpected results, is the feature film being presented by Queer Projections on Friday, June 26 on this year’s Sunshine Coast Pride weekend.
“I was born Melanie and then four years ago I switched and now I’m Adam.” So says Gavin Crawford in the role of transgender Adam, matter-of-factly relating his story to the guys over a couple of pints. But this simple telling belies the complex nature of Adam’s life, made even more complicated when he helps his ex, Miriam (Naomi Sniecku), artificially inseminate and they both wind up pregnant. Can Adam face motherhood and still be one of the boys?
The story is deftly told with sensitivity and humour. Written and directed by acclaimed Canadian, genderqueer filmmaker Maureen Bradley, Two 4 One is one of those rare films that combines skillful storytelling with strong performances. For his portrayal of Adam, Gavin Crawford won ACTRA Toronto’s 2015 Outstanding Male Performance Award.
This is a unique opportunity for Coasters to see one of the most talked about LGBTQ films of the year.
Shot in Victoria, Two 4 One features a soundtrack from indie favourites where the landscape, cinematography and score complement Bradley’s light yet bittersweet telling of Adam’s unique story.
With just as much laughter as it has heart, TWO 4 ONE reminds us that love and family come in many ways. — Translations, Seattle Transgender Film Festival.
